The challenge to the territorial integrity of Iraq
Article Abstract:
The influential role of regional and international powers pose a challenge to the territorial integrity of Iraq since its invasion of Kuwait and the Gulf War of 1991. Under the cover of 'no-fly' zones imposed by the West, the Kurds pose threat to both Saddam Hussein's regime and the Iraqi state while the Shi'is want the removal of the Ba'athi regime. Changing relations with neighbouring countries, namely Syria, Turkey and Iran, are discussed.
