Gagging on provisions
Article Abstract:
Public discussion into US food safety issues are likely to be circumvented by the increased use of legal action by food producers, against complainants. Libel laws in the US will restrict scientific opinion and media investigation into the quality of food. The food libel laws are supported by producers, who had failed to use current laws to prevent adverse information being broadcast about their food products. Several US states have already introduced legislation preventing food disparagement which is against the right of free speech according to the US Constitution.
