Drucker at 73: Revelling in His Role as an Outsider
Article Abstract:
Peter Drucker is a modern management expert. His ideas include decentralization, management by objectives and quality circles. Drucker's ideas were generally ill-received when they were new. These ideas are now basic management concepts. Drucker is a writer and thinker rather than a company man. He spends a few days a year in corporate consultation, and slightly more teaching and lecturing. He believes that American managers will usually not act unless in a crisis situation, that unions are dead and that supply-side economics will not work in the United States. He does not believe Japan is the economic miracle others believe it is or that a well-managed company exists. A variety of other opinions are included in this interview.

Hale and pace
Article Abstract:
Some studies have shown that health can be affected by the position of an individual in the social hierarchy. Studies had previously shown that poverty causes ill-health but it now seems likely that relative deprivation may also affect health outcomes. The death rate amongst the poor in New York is higher than the death rate in Bangladesh, despite the people in Bangladesh experiencing much greater poverty. Some observers suggest that a more equal society may help to eradicate some health problems particularly those caused by psychosocial factors.
