I refuse to jump through hoops

Article Abstract:

The performance-management systems introduced in universities, which would manage academics in a corporate framework, will only lead to a decline in educational quality. Academics need a degree of autonomy and informal interactions to function well, and should refuse to be forced to adhere to unsuitable regulations that rob them of authenticity and genuine commitment to their work.

Be afraid, be very afraid... no, don't

Article Abstract:

An examination of how academics engage in the politics of fear while simultaneously criticising politicians for doing the same. It is argued that academics help to spread scare stories in order to gain funds from and exert influence over regimes with fear-based agendas.
