Next RAE may demote 5*s
Article Abstract:
The majority of university departments that currently have top 5* research ratings will find that their ratings are reduced under plans for a new finer grading system in the 2008 research assessment exercise, according to evaluation of the new grading system by Stuart McLeay, a researcher at Bangor University. The analysis revealed that the average 5* department is likely to receive only a three rating out of a possible four under the new grading proposals, with only a select few world-class departments standing a chance of receiving the top grade.

Excellence - time
Article Abstract:
New computer studies, mathematics and statistics academics will be expected to produce one research output or academic paper every 21 months they are in a full-time post. This is in response to concerns that early-career researchers would be penalised unfairly in the RAE.
