No cash to expand

Article Abstract:

The UK is not likely to fund a renewal of a higher education expansion program. Savings from reforms of loans and grants for students are likely to be used by the Treasury and not by the higher education system. There are divisions within the UK Conservative Party on this issue. The UK Labor Party opposes savings which do not lead to an increase in resources for education, argues Bryan Davies, the spokesman on further and higher education for the Labor Party.

A rush for upward mobility

Article Abstract:

A number of United Kingdom colleges are seeking to become universities. The government is to limit the ability of colleges to call themselves universities, which will only apply to institutions that are part of a university or which have the power to award degrees for taught courses. Three institutions are near to achieving university status, and they are Cheletenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education, Bolton Institute and Roehamption Institute.
