Playing it by ear
Article Abstract:
A classroom technique for teaching listening comprehension was presented. Students are divided into several groups and are told to listen to a series of oral instructions, given in the same manner as managers to their employees. The group members take notes of the key elements of the oral instructions. Afterwards, each group reconstructs the instructions and are awarded points according to how close they came to the original set of instructions. The exercise continues for a few more rounds, using fewer but more complicated questions and bigger points for listening comprehension accuracy.
