A south Texas special education teacher freely admits using a floating standard, instead of ever failing any students, because he and his colleagues always receive reprimands when they adhere to the tough standards that result in failing students. They problem of the floating standard is pervasive and getting worse.

Grade inflation: sending the wrong message

Article Abstract:

The data on the effects of grade inflation in elementary schools is analyzed. Low-achieving students when they are in classrooms with relatively high overall achievement benefit academically and the drive for higher standards is endangered by grade inflation.
