The new face of recession

Article Abstract:

The next UK recession is likely to cause many young, highly qualified individuals, living in the south of England, to experience redundancy. They will lose their jobs due to a decline in the business services sector as technology develops. The recession in the early 1980s resulted in fewer job opportunities for middle aged skilled manual workers. It is likely the next recession will occur during 1999. Some recessions do not cause business practices to alter or make major changes to the economy.

Conveying what Mr Gibberish is driving at

Article Abstract:

A team from Liverpool University's school of politics is looking at the public's view of the state of the economy as gleaned from the media. According to journalists there are problems in writing about the economy, and they have to ensure that their viewers and readers understand what they are saying. They more often find that the focus of their report is on changes in figures rather than policy. It is not always clear to television viewers whether ecomomic news is good or bad.

The operation of monetary policy

Article Abstract:

The Bank of England's review of the British monetary policy during the last quarter of 1995 has shown that inflation is more likely to remain below 2.5% during the next two years than it was during the third quarter of 1995. The retail price inflation measured 2.9% and was in accordance with the Government's inflation targets. Broad money growth remains strong, although if this trend continues it may cause inflation to rise as well.
