Wish list for workers
Article Abstract:
Surveys indicate that employers believe communication skills to be of primary importance when recruiting graduates, with the ability to apply knowledge in the workplace also considered valuable. Numeracy and IT skills were perceived to be less important by employers, although these features are considered of fundamental importance in the Dearing report on higher education. Technical ability was considered the least important attribute of the nine rated. Institutions are targeted for recruitment by 66% of employers, indicating that equality of opportunity is not present in the job market.

A poem, 40 years long: a celebrated beatnik, mountaineer, environmental crusader, essayist and poet, Gary Snyder has lived a life worthy of the epic he has finally finished
Article Abstract:
Snyder is annoyed that some people can only associate him with the beat generation and do not realize that he is a tenured professor at UC Davis, and a person who studies. His epic poem is now available in book stores: it has references to mountaineering, and Naive American and Chinese lore.
