Czechoslovakia's divisions
Article Abstract:
Czechoslovakia in the early 1990s is in danger of fragmentation. Its friendship treaty with Germany has given rise to renewed controversy on the Sudeten-German question. The possibility of economic 'Anschluss' with Germany raises genuine concern. The state of economic reform will play a major part in the outcome of the 1992 election, and the forecast for 1992 is inflation of 12% and gross domestic product decline of 5-8%. The situation will worsen before it gets better. Fragmentation might result in a final break of the Czech and Slovak Federation.
