23rd steam station cost survey: busbar-energy costs reflect reduced inflation
Article Abstract:
Of the 31 stations reporting, 26 burn coal and take delivery by rail. Busbar costs are down drastically to 12.6% from 74%, operating costs are up 33%, construction costs are up 25%. Most plants utilize cooling-towers, only 9 have scrubbers. Almost 75% make use of computers for control-function and over 75% use automatic data collection systems.

Economic recession spawns a new generation philosophy
Article Abstract:
Most plants have single horizontally firing furnaces with natural circulation. Efforts are being made to make pollution control equipment more effective and less costly. Many are retrofitting and automating plants in the face of declining demand.
