While both technologies offer excellent sound quality and share a number of common features, only one of them is expected to survive since both are mutually incompatible.

Merger of PDP, LCD methods puts benefits of both on display

Article Abstract:

Tektronix Inc is the originator of plasma-addressed liquid crystal (PALC) display tehnology, a system that combines plasma display panels with thin-film transistor liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The PALC system, which culminated in the introduction of a 42-inch TV set under Sony Corp's Plasmatron brand in 1997, provides bright pictures with excellent color purity. PALC LCDs can also be used as cost-efficient big-screen displays despite their unsuitability as high-definition TVs.
