The transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCP/IP) is now being used in the control systems of electric utilities. A network-ready substation communications server, known as the IP-Server, enables utilities to develop necessary information systems.

NIMO automates outage restoration

Niagara Mohawk installed a geographic information system with raster scanning technology to better track power failures during inclement weather. The computer system replaces wall maps and is better able to track employees and crews.
