Florida Power and Light Co (FP&L) utilizes a thermal storage system that meets its cooling requirements at low energy consumption during peak hours of operation. The system utilizes low-cost off-peak electricity energy at about $0.031/kWh, instead of the average cost of $0.07/kWh.

Transmission-line faults can be located by comparing the arrival time of fault-generated pulses. Global positioning system (GPS) receivers provide a time base that can be used along with the information from digital fault recording.
