Gaining market edge, DVD players vary product selection

Article Abstract:

The sale of digital videodisc (DVD) players in Japan reported a sharp increase in May 1999, to about 400,000 units, compared with sales reported for the same month in 1998. The increase in sales, which includes a 56% rise from Jan to Oct 1999, when compared with figures for the same period in the previous year, is attributed to the introduction of the rental business for DVD software, the reduction in DVD player prices and the increase in the number of DVD models available in the market.
