HiFi looks ahead to HDTV

Article Abstract:

Hi-Fi '98 in Los Angeles, CA, exhibited new products that focused mostly on enhancing CD quality sound and improving picture quality for analog TV while providing future HD compatibility. Several audio and video vendors, such as Vidikron, Pioneer, Zenith, Sony, Faroudja, Runko, AmPro and Sharp, displayed high-definition or HD-compatible systems. The exhibit also displayed super high-priced loudspeakers from vendors such as AuraSound, AR, Mission, NHT, Pioneer and Finland-based Genelec.

Audio rides the digital hype

Article Abstract:

A range of digital audio receivers has been introduced by manufacturers. Yamaha has launched its model RX-V495 for $399 while its five-channel model RX-v995 is priced at just under $1,000. Yamaha introduced its seven-channel receiver RX-V2095 with surround settings and built-in Dolby Digital and DTS with a suggested retail price of $1,599. Other new entries are Harman's AVR35, Pioneer's VSX-D698, Onkyo's RX-DS474 with Dolby Digital encoding and Kenwood's VR-309 A/V receiver.

HDTV brings Dolby Digital push

Article Abstract:

The advent of high definition television has resulted in the availability of Dolby Digital audio upgrades from a number of manufacturers. These include the AVR-5600DTS and AVR-3600DTS receivers and AVP-8000DTS preamp/processor from Denon, the RX-V2095 and RX-V795 from Yamaha and the SR-880 Mark II from Marantz. Other Dolby Digital audio products include the AVR65, AVR45, AVR35 and AVR 5 lines from Harmna Kardon and the VR-2080 and VR-2090 from Kenwood.
