Pioneer targets top share of global DVD business

Article Abstract:

Pioneer Electronic Corp will double its DVD sales to 800,000 units in 1998 to secure a 25% to 30% share in the global DVD market. According to general manager Sumitaka Matsumura, the company has already initiated several strategies, including the development of sales campaigns, to rev up sales of its highly-acclaimed DVL-909 DVD player. Pioneer expects sales in the Asian region to be basically the same despite of the recent economic turmoils experienced in the area.

Layers of boards punch up digital power in portable DVDs

Article Abstract:

Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd of Japan has introduced its latest line of portable DVD players, the LC Portable Dream DVD-P10 and DVD-L10. The company, which intends to capitalize on the emerging DVD market, utilized its advanced device integration technology to develop the DVD players which are among the smallest in the industry. Matsushita's portable DVD players are capable of playing not only DVDs but Video CDs and audio CDs as well.
