JVC's hybrid recorder incorporates hard disc, VCR

Article Abstract:

Victor Company of Japan Ltd has unveiled a hybrid video recorder called the HM-HDS1 that features a 20GB hard drive and a Super-VHS VCR. The HM- HDS1 allows up to 20 hours of video recording in the super economy play mode and up to seven hours in standard play mode. It also allows for the simultaneous recording of programs on the hard disk, and playing of programs already recorded. The HM-HDS1 also comes with the HS mode, which enables recording of programs of digital Hi-Vision broadcasts.

Toshiba incorporates HDD to its latest DVD video recorder

Article Abstract:

Toshiba Corp has launched in Japan a DVD-RAM video recorder, called RD- 2000, with a hard disk drive. The RD-2000, which measures 430 x 110 x 360 mm and weighs 8.9 kg, features a 30GB hard disc drive and a 4.7 GB DVD-RAM drive that can store up to 33.5 hours of video images. Also, users can edit images between the hard disc drive and the DVD-RAM. The company on Dec 22, 2000 began marketing the product with a price of Y270,000.

Makers See Opportunities as Video Recorder Market Turns Digital

Article Abstract:

Japanese manufacturers of DVDs have begun debuting digital video recorders with either tape, DVD, hard drives, and large-capacity memory cards for storage of data. These companies expect an increased demand for such devices. Increased storage capacity is one benefit of new technology.
