MiniDiscs wedge open promising new areas of recording field

Article Abstract:

MiniDiscs (MDs) are optical discs that are similar to compact discs (CDs) but are only 64mm in diameter. The product, once distributed only in Japan and is only currently being accepted worldwide, is capable of recording and playing as much as 74 minutes of music as well as text data. MDs, which can come in play-only or recordable disc format, uses an audio signal-compression technology called adaptive transform acoustic coding or ATRAC.

Successful delivery of high definition content to television viewers, through full high definition displays is discussed. Comparison of signal processing efficiency, in different formats of digital television broadcasting, is presented.
