Satellite-based equipment tests relay performance

Article Abstract:

The Bonneville Power Administration recently used a satellite signal to test relay reliability by simulating a fault. Ordinarily synchronization and phase problems prevent such simulation, but a Global Positioning System satellite sent the same signal at once to two locations.

Duke Power Co. technicians working on overhead lines and substations are now wearing custom-designed fall protection gear by Buckingham Manufacturing Co. of Binghamton, NY. The uniform features dougle lanyards and snaphooks that are locked against detachment from D-rings.

PSE&G's safety drive features video with memorable message

Public Servic Electric and Gas Co. has launched a safety information program aimed at reaching zero accidents by 1997. The program features a video message from line inspector Steven Hayes, who lost both arms in an on-the-job accident.
