Sony expands polysilicon TFT LCD lineup

Article Abstract:

Sony Corp is adding to its line of polysilicon thin-film transistor (TFT) LCDs. It has released low-temperature 1.5-in and 2.0-in reflection models for portable electronics in Dec 1999 and still plans to launch new high- temperature polysilicon TFT LCDs for LCD data projectors in 2000. Sony also aims to manufacture 3.8-to-9-in models as capacity enhancement proceeds. It will market 1.5-in models with 240 vertical dots by Mar 2000.

Toshiba's poly-Si LCDs slash power consumption

Article Abstract:

Toshiba Corp's LTM04C387S 4-in reflection-formation poplysilicon (poly-Si) thin-film transistor color LCD consumes only 0.4W, which is one-third less power than other formats. The lower power consumption is due to the fact that it does not need a backlight. The poly-Si thin-film transistor color LCD offers true VGA resolution with 202 pixels per in and pprovides bright displays. It handles images with 64 levels of gray scale.

20.1-in multimedia LCD screens

Article Abstract:

NEC Corp has developed a 20.1-in wide-screen liquid crystal display (LCD) that particularly targets multimedia uses. The product responds to Hi- Vision computer and video images. The thin-film transistor LCD operates at a 16:10 aspect ratio and delivers resolutions with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. It provides a 60% chromaticity range in comparison to NTSC for color reproduction comparable to that of CRTs.
