Heeding CD potential, Aiwa finetunes audio line for U.S. market

Aiwa America Inc expects a double-digit growth rate in the sales of its car audio equipment in the US market for the year 2000. The company, which entered the US car audio sector in 1998, credits the rapid shift by US consumers from cassette players to CD players for the phenomenal sales performance. Aiwa, which intends to continue developing its recordable CD and DVD lines, however, expressed concerns because of increasing pricing competitions in the market.

U.S. car audio market wheels ahead, finding strength in custom touches

Article Abstract:

The Consumer Electronics Assn reports that the car audio market's sales boom in 1999 is continuing in 2000. Dealers report that sales has increased by 3% in 1st qtr 2000. Manufacturers attribute the sales growth to the introduction of car audio products with appealing features, such as motor-driven loading, color LCDs and other high-tech displays. Soaring sales is also influenced by the introduction of new categories such as navigation and mobile video.
