The Alpine NVAN751A is used on a long, 2,065-mile vaccation in the US and western Canada. It costs $1,999, including monitor and CD-ROM drive. It calculates trip length, taking into account speed limit changes, and includes a wealth of touring and other road convenience data.

The $15,000 Sony XES Reference System is a newly designed car stereo system with components that are also available separately. A test of the system in a demonstration Audi A8 Quattro revealed that it offers top-rate sound quality.
