Management and control of CCSDS cross-support services
Article Abstract:
Defining standard terms is a necessity since the international scientific community insists on sharing science data returned from any space-science mission. CCSDS is an international organization which works at standardizing and managing all aspects of space data collection, storage, transmission, and cataloging. The committee considers a cross-support service as use by one agency of a resource or service that belongs to and is managed by another agency. The suggested architecture for managing and controlling CCSDS services is based on emerging concepts of networks managing computer and telecommunication networks. Each agency's management entity provides direct management functions for the resources it provides as cross-support services. The architectural needs of CCSDS use solutions provided by the Common Management Information Service and Common Management Information Protocol standards.
