Microstrip antennas
Article Abstract:
The area of microstrip antennas has seen some inventive work in recent years and is currently one of the most dynamic fields of antenna theory. A microstrip antenna consists of a metallic patch printed on a thin, grounded dielectric substrate. Advantages of microstrip antennas include its low profile, ease of fabrication and the ease with which it can be integrated with other microwave integrated circuits. An overview of work done in the area of microstrip antennas is presented and several recent developments in the field are highlighted. In addition, new antenna configurations that improve electrical performance and manufacturability are described.

Satellite antennas
Article Abstract:
Antennas designed for communications satellites must withstand the unique stresses of a space environment, and they must often handle more than simple communications relay. The increased demands on satellites for communications has brought about impressive developments such as multibeam antennas. The types of antennas currently used in satellite communications can be placed in three categories: communication; tracking, telemetry and command, and special satellite antennas. New developments in this area include shaped beam antennas and active monolithic microwave integrated circuit phased array antennas.

Advances in multibeam communications satellite antennas
Article Abstract:
The capacity of communications satellites has been increased because of the development of multibeam antenna technology. It is now feasible to use active phased arrays as multibeam antennas on board satellites because of advances in printed-circuit antennas and gallium arsenide monolithic microwave integrated circuits. The five major areas of advances in communications satellite antenna technology are: single offset reflectors with feed arrays, shaped reflector systems, active phased arrays, phased-array-fed dual reflector systems, and lightweight feed elements.
