The OSI File Service
Article Abstract:
The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) File Service is a standard for transferring, accessing, and managing information that is stored in or moved between open systems as files. The file transfer, access, and management (FTAM) services are in the Apllication Layer. The model used is the Virtual Filestore which defines file attributes, structures, and operations. The OSI File Service describes a file service initiator and a file service responder. One appendix lists the attributes that the Virtual Filestore defines and another lists the file service elements. Diagrams illustrate the architecture of the file service, the access structure, and the relation of regimes to each other.

Virtual address cache with no reverse address buffering
Article Abstract:
A virtual address cache memory architecture is developed that offers improved integration into the overall system organization. Cache operation is controlled by software which reduces the complexity of cache management logic, including need for the reverse translation buffer, and eliminates the problem of two or more virtual addresses mapping into the same real address. The cache memory offers improved memory capacity, avoids miss ratio increases due to cache flushing, and minimizes use of accesses in split modes. Details of the virtual address cache memory design are described.

OSI Virtual Terminal Service
Article Abstract:
The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Virtual Terminal Service (VTS) is an Application Layer service which standardizes services and protocols to support virtual terminals in OSI networks. Several virtual terminal services and protocols will be developed for different terminal systems. The ISO Generic VTS Protocol serves as the primary reference for development of special classes of virtual terminal service. The Basic Class VTS will provide a character-oriented service for nonsophisticated applications. Diagrams and tables describe the Generic and Basic Virtual Terminals.
