A Module to Estimate Numerical Values of Hidden Variables for Expert Systems
Article Abstract:
In strategic decision-making, the consequences of an action effect the outcome of the confrontation. The decision maker needs to know the value of variables as precisely as possible to optimize the action. Some variables are hidden and can only be measured intermittently. A module is presented to estimate the values of hidden variables when desired. The module uses generalized production rules about the relations between open and hidden variables. The system can be used in distributed database applications.

Diagnostic Expert Systems Based in a Set Covering Model
Article Abstract:
Medical diagnosis expert systems often have problems handling multiple disorders. The concept of using a set covering model for diagnostic expert systems is discussed. It deals with the problem of multiple simultaneous causative disorder diagnosis. Minimal set covers are used to form diagnoses. Empirical studies of diagnostic reasoning justify the use of set covering. Issues involved in implementing the system are discussed.

A Note on the Functional Estimation of Values of Hidden Variables - An Extended Module for Expert Systems
Article Abstract:
The Generalized Production Rules System for expert systems, presented in an earlier paper, is extended. The system used stochastic, causal relation and mathematical properties of open variables to make point estimates of hidden variables. It has been extended to include the ability to estimate functional behavior of hidden variables. A dialog between the user and GPRS concerning point and functional estimates is included.
