An optimal worker allocation problem for a U-shaped production line
Article Abstract:
An optimization problem dealing with worker allocation for a U-shaped production line is considered, with the aim of minimizing the overall cycle time under the minimum number of workers. The production line features multiple workers with multiple functions and assumes that all processing, operation and walking times are deterministic in nature. The optimal worker allocation problem is compared with a well-known assembly line balancing problem. In addition, an algorithm for solving an optimal allocation of workers to machines is proposed.

Stochastic lot-sizing: solution and heuristic methods
Article Abstract:
A stochastic lot-sizing problem of a Dutch steel pipe manufacturer in a make-to-order environment is analyzed. The problem is characterized by uncertain demand, fixed delivery dates and no possibility of finished goods inventory. Three rules are proposed for the uncapacitated and capacitated versions of the problem, namely, a simple production strategy, a Silver-Meal Algorithm-based lot sizing strategy and a fixed cycle strategy.

Batch-model assembly line balancing: a multiattribute decision making approach
Article Abstract:
The batch model assembly line possesses greater product flexibility than its single-model counterpart because of the ability to produce two or more products in batch order. The model is applied to a printing calculator assembly line to determine demand properties of products in the batch. The system requires a balanced configuration that will minimize balance delay or workstation number and meet production standard variables.
