Software applications
Article Abstract:
The software industry's electronic design automation (EDA) will undergo significant changes in 1996. EDA engineers will migrate en masse from Unix workstations to powerful personal computers that run on the latest Windows operating systems. A higher level of interoperability among applications is also expected together with the introduction of new languages that will vie for the title of 'system design language of choice.'

Software engineering
Article Abstract:
Software developers such as Novell Inc. and Lotus Development Corp. are planning to challenge Microsoft Corp.'s domination of the market in 1996 by developing operating systems which can serve as alternative de facto standards to Windows 95. The popularity being enjoyed by Windows 95 is also expected to lead to the emergence of new software applications that run on Windows 95-based platforms and architectures.
