Mentors are responsible for the success or failure of the careers of young engineers. They should therefore be selected only after considerable analysis of their character and attitude. Mentors, apart from providing technical help and advice, can also introduce the engineers to senior executives of the organization.

Frederick E. Terman: Educator and Mentor
Article Abstract:
Frederick E. Terman guided the development of Stanford University's School of Engineering and also aided the growth of the electronics industry in the Silicon Valley. Terman was an advocate of both theoretical education and practical training. He actively encouraged young engineers to start their own companies.
