An integrated approach to food safety
Article Abstract:
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and ISO 9000 both seek to bring about the best practices for customer and regulatory requirements. Both are based on the quality cycle, which demands planning, implementation, assessment and improvement. HACCP and ISO 9000 are relatively straightforward, but there is a lot of confusion on integration because of different interpretations of individual ISO 9000 components. Differences of opinion are likely to persist as companies decide what elements of ISO and HACCP determine the documentation of continuous improvement for quality activities and food safety.

Quality in commercial food processing
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the quality practices of the US food processing industry demands an insight into how consumers, the nature of food and the regulatory climate interact to influence the industry. The commercial food processing industry is extremely regulated, with the good manufacturing practice regulations of the Food and Drug Administration and the US Dept of Agriculture establishing the processing conditions for the hygienic production of food. It is common for automatic process control or engineering process control to be used to control food manufacturing processes.
