Article Abstract:
Principles of quality can be implemented in education by giving quality awards and increasing the interest of schools in these awards. The awards are based on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and most states have generalized or redefined the Award's criteria in terms of education. Multilevel awards increase the chances of schools winning awards, and their interest in the award process and quality principles. Business-school collaborations, training programs, state quality reviews, and supplemental educational projects help in the implementation of quality principles by schools.

Communication plays an important role for the Engineering Development Center (EDC) of The Coca-Cola Co in Atlanta, GA, to meet the challenges in implementing its quality programs. EDC's weekly newsletter called SPCwatch serves as an essential vehicle in providing employees with a clear understanding of the statistical process control (SPC). SPCwatch contains philosophical and technical subjects, as well as issues which need to be addressed to elicit a favorable response from employees. The newsletter has been effective in motivating employees towards quality performance.
