Self-directed work teams: a guide to implementation
Article Abstract:
Self-directed work teams (SDWT) represent a group of trained employees responsible for producing a well defined segment of work. Management commitment, unions, empowerment, training, communication, and rewards are the key variables that are necessary for the implementation of SDWTs. The teams' scope depends on management inclination, organizational culture variables, needs, and overall team maturity. SDWT is a departure from conventional work design and represents a practical usage of vertical enrichment.
