Aspirin and heroin: one man invents two pain relievers in two weeks

Article Abstract:

A history Aspirin and Heroin, the two drugs synthesized in the late 19th century by Felix Hoffmann, is presented. Hoffmann produced acetylsalicylic acid, which Bayer Co. marketed worldwide as 'aspirin', and he also acetylated morphine to derive codeine, but instead produced a substance that was named 'heroin'.
