Bar code implementation: integrating a bar coding system requires knowledge, time and continuity
Article Abstract:
The success of bar code implementation in a company relies on thorough planning and continuous quality control. Studies have shown that the use of bar codes enhances speed ofdata collection and maintenance of data reliability. Steps in program planning include selecting a project team, choosing bar code symbols and assigning an outside expert. Five important program areas are defined. These are operationalevaluation, system definition, technological assessment, training and implementation and specification development.

Smooth out the road to ISO 9000 implementation
Article Abstract:
An International Standards Organization (ISO) 9000-based quality system can be implemented by following management strategies that will simplify the integration of the quality system. ISO 9000 documentation can be simplified by designating a given reference in the quality manual to a specific ISO 9000 policy. A raw material specification sheet is also needed to provide data on the quality and manufacturer of the raw materials that were purchased by the company.

Quality system harmonization for clinical laboratories
Article Abstract:
It is argued that quality improvement in the healthcare system would benefit from harmonisation of the ISO 9001 standard and the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations. Both sets of regulations focus on the quality system and management responsibility, however, the ISO standard prioritises these two elements. Similarly, both regulations also focus on documentation and record-keeping.
