Horton Tower Conservation Project, Dorest
Article Abstract:
East Dorset District Council set up a preservation trust for Horton Tower, an 18th century folly, but cost of remedial work was expected to be around 250,000 pounds sterling. However the folly was purchased by Vodaphone which was seeking a site to locate a new car telephone station. The remedial work include a new lead roof, repairs to turret domes an cornices and reconstruction of the parapets. Vodaphone's control equipment would have adversely affected the character of the tower, so it was housed underground.
