Eastern peps up its contracting
Article Abstract:
The electrical contracting portion of Eastern Electricity covers the Anglia, Thames and Central regions and each of these is now to be a separate profit centre with its own office. This move to stand-alone status is a measure of the seriousness of the company in exploiting the building and electrical services part of its operation. Its electrical contracting activities increased by around 10% in 1991 with turnover increasing from 35 to around 39 million pounds sterling. Staffing is about 950 and this figure will be reduced by natural wastage. Marketing is directed through leafleting with consumer accounts and liaising with the retail side.

Strategic moves at the prospect of a deregulated electricity market
Article Abstract:
A study on the systematic deregulation process within the Swedish power distribution market presents the results of a 1995 survey on the strategic moves that Swedish electricity distributors have adopted in practice to adjust to new market conditions. A key research issue is whether or not market efficiency will develop after deregulation. Survey findings were compared to developments in the UK, Norway and Finland where the power markets have also been deregulated.

What's the future for M&E?: while anecdotal evidence suggest the building industry is slowing again, BSRIA's latest review of m&e contracting paints a more optimistic picture of the future
Article Abstract:
BSRIA's latest review of the m&e contracting market shows that electrical contracting increased in value to 51% in 1993, and m&e output in 1994 is estimated to have increased by 4% overall, with an increase of 4% expected in 1995. The commercial sector is predicted to remain the largest sector for new mechanical and electrical work in 1996.
