Effectively design shell-and-tube heat exchangers

Article Abstract:

The fundamentals of designing shell-and-tube heat exchangers (STHEs) are discussed. The topics covered include STHE components; classification of STHEs according to construction and service; tubeside design; shellside design, including tube layout, baffling and shellside pressure drop; and mean temperature difference. The use of tubeside and shellside heat transfer and pressure drop for the optimum design of STHEs are also discussed.

Does your application call for an F-shell heat exchanger?

Article Abstract:

It is suggested that an F-shell heat exchanger might have advantages over others when there is a temperature cross and when the shellside flowrate is low. The reasons why the F-shell is better in these situations are discussed.
