Electricity from industrial waste heat using high-speed organic Rankine cycle (ORC)
Article Abstract:
Organic Rankine cycle (ORC) refers to a Ranking cycle where an appropriate organic fluid replaces water as the working fluid for the conversion of heat into electricity. ORC is a preferred option particularly in low temperature conditions over the steam-based Rankine process due to the attainment of optimal efficiency and power output. Thus, the process generates more electric power from industrial heat applications.

How to determine the heat load of swimming pools: a simple step-by-step method for calculating losses from conduction, convection, re-radiation, and evaporation
Article Abstract:
Swimming pools lose heat by pool-surface evaporation, re-radiation, and convection; and by pool-wall conduction. Average monthly records of pool-vs.-air temperature and humidity may not be as accurate as calculations based on daily values. Computation for conduction losses, below-grade vs. above-ground pools, convection, radiation, and evaporation losses, adjusting calculated values, and direct gain are presented.

Heat pumps: hot water at the right price?
Article Abstract:
Heat-pump water heaters, an attractive energy-saving option, are dependable at climates between 45 and 95 degrees. They cost less than half that of most solar units. Generating mix, peak-load schedule, and climate would influence utilities' deciding to encourage customers to choose them.
