Engineers and landscape architects at a crossroads
Article Abstract:
Some of the proposed legislation put forth by American Society of Landscape Architects loosely describe the type of services that landscape architects can engage in. For instance, the proposed bill would allow landscape architects in Ohio to perform civil and electrical engineering functions, such as designing exterior lighting layouts. Tim Schaffer, executive director of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers, warns that landscape architects do not have the training to perform these specialized tasks. He adds that other states may follow suit if Ohio enacts the bill.
