Enzymes neutralize explosives

Article Abstract:

Researchers at the Dept of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have discovered enzymes that can transform explosives such as TNT into low toxic byproducts. The nitroreductase enzymes are found in plants, fungi and bacteria. The neutralizing process, called Environmentally Benign Digestion Process (EBDP), is being tested and will soon be tested in the field. If successful in the field, EBDP will be more cost effective than other methods of disposing explosives, according to the researchers.

Wisely make investment decisions via risk mapping

Article Abstract:

The Risk Mapping Method is presented as a technique for companies to identify and assess an integrated risk profile of environmental, health and safety (EHS) issues. With value creation at its core, the Risk Mapping Method can be used by companies to identify value-creation opportunities in a risk management context. A summary of the results of an application of the approach at a major US chemical company is provided.
