Epoxy resin maker changes hands

Article Abstract:

Dow Chemical Co, a Midland, MI-based chemical company, has entered into an agreement to acquire 80% of Pacific Epoxy Co from Saehan Industries Inc. Pacific Epoxy, which will still be 20%-owned by Saehan Industries, manufactures about 12,000 metric tons/year of converted epoxy resins at a plant in Kumi, South Korea. Most of the resins are sold to customers in the Republic of Korea, which is expected to require 100,000 metric tons by 2010.

Polyvinyl alcohol business bought

Article Abstract:

Air Products and Chemicals Inc, a chemical producer headquartered in Allentown, PA, has agreed to sell its polyvinyl alcohol operations to Kronberg, Germany-based Celanese AG for $326 million. The sale includes facilities in Pasadena, TX, and Calvert City, KY, that employ about 200 people, and have the capacity to produce nearly 200 million pounds/year of polyvinyl alcohol.

Polyester business change hands

Article Abstract:

Neste Chemicals Oy, a subsidiary of Nordekemi Group, will sell the business and assets of its Neste Polyester unit to Ashland Inc. Neste Polyester manufactures unsaturated polyester resins and gelcoats. Once the proposed sale has received regulatory approvals, the polyester unit will operate within the Composite Polymer Division of Ashland Specialty Chemical Co.
