Finding the person who knows
Article Abstract:
The People Who Know program was establishedto create a pool of external technology experts who may be consulted on retainer basis to promote technology transfer. Deere and Co.'s Technical Center in Moline, IL, has been using the services of the program's experts since 1990, and hassucceeded in obtaining vital pieces of information which enabled it to proceed with the application of new technologies. The technical center made 200 contactswith People Who Know in 1994 at a cost of $20,000, which is much less than if the center hired full-time consultants to develop all new technologies in-house.

Finding the way ahead
Article Abstract:
Emergency lighting systems have traditionally been based on high mounted luminaires but wayfinding systems may be a viable option, according to a study published by the UK's Buildings Research Establishment (BRE). Wayfinding systems, including exit door marking, emergency exit signs and wall marking lines, are low mounted systems that may be equally as effective as high mounted luminaires in many emergency conditions. The BRE has evaluated two powered waymarking systems and an electroluminescent system. Results of the findings are presented.
