Gridlock scenario predicted by DoT
Article Abstract:
The UK Department of Transport forecasts road congestion in the two decades from 1996. Some 50% of UK major road routes are likely to experience regular congestion if no new road building is carried out. The government has been called on to develop an integrated transportation policy by a number of professional bodies. There has also been a call for education of the public on transportation issues. The UK road-building program has been reduced, and funds saved could be used for public transportation.

Compact golf swings brownfield site solution
Article Abstract:
Derelict and brownfield sites could be used for compact golf courses being developed by Golf Courts Incorporated. The courses can be as small as 2.5 ha and would be appropriate for urban locations, providing a recreational facility for city people. Other sports facilities, such as running tracks and climbing walls could also be developed around the course. The company is already in discussion with several planning departments about developing such facilities.
