Preparing for an ISO 9000 certification must begin with management responsibility. The process of writing down corporate goals and the development of a system which will be used for the attainment of such is difficult only for those who will be considering the matter for the first time. However, for those who have already established a meaningful quality policy, the job becomes easy. To facilitate the preparation approach, some techniques can prove useful.

Making sense of surface measurement

Article Abstract:

The development of new materials and multi-processing techniques has made surface measurement a more complicated task for quality professionals. New standards and equipment make it necessary for manufacturers to re-establish basic standards for measuring surfaces. Surface quality has to be defined by function, by its desired features and by undesirable features. Software programs have been developed to aid in surface quality determination.

Getting the most from intranets

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers which have considered establishing an intranet have experienced positive and interesting results. Certain techniques to facilitate information sharing and effectively use the intranet include testing the pilot site, giving access to all workers, using the intranet as the company's online quality and customer-satisfaction display and forming an intranet user's group. Other tips are discussed.
