Leading to quality
Article Abstract:
Management-led quality improvement programs enable a company to achieve high quality levels which in turn enhance productivity. Sierra Semiconductor Corp underwent one such program to cope with sharp demand increases. Consultants pointed to process improvement as necessary to raise quality, particularly in semiconductor photolithography rework. Reductions in this area, together with personnel training, systems upgrading, and monitoring quality of supplies under the auspices of management contributed to the program's success. Organizational cooperation more than technology is the key to productivity.

Explosion of new products creates challenges: age of innovation requires new tools of quality
Article Abstract:
The significant increase in new product launches presents great challenges for quality practitioners. They must be willing to become familiar with new tools and techniques, as well as looking at how quality can be redefined as customer expectations change. Some key figures in the quality field believe that new versions of quality tools must be developed. This is already happening, with SAS, for example, having launched a point-and-click interface for the design and analysis of experiments called ADX.
