Management-system standard gets lukewarm support
Article Abstract:
Members of the international standards community will debate on the need for an international occupational health and safety management-system (OHSMS) standard. This standard is presumed to be similar to the two existing management system standards, ISO 9000 and ISO 14000. However, about 86% of participants in a workshop in Rosemont, IL, indicated their opposition to an OHSMS standard. Many participants also wanted US involvement if ever the standard was to be developed.

Standard process classifications
Article Abstract:
There is a new process classification system which represents a positive development in standardizing comparative performance and process analysis. The classification approach is applicable not only to various industries but also to different countries. It will serve as a common language in the assessment of industrial processes and practices. The framework features seven divisions of business activities and six categories of management and support processes.
