Managing the Database

Article Abstract:

Database management systems are moving from being procedural to being relational. Non-data processing personnel are using database systems more and more. With the decline in mainframe computers and procedural computer languages, new markets are being sought and compromises are being developed. The tactics of forming integrated systems and interfaces to combine relational and procedural products are detailed.

Success factors are listed by area. The successful manager must emphasize people. A table gives an integrative checklist covering maintaining external and internal support and hiring.
