The implications of new directions
Article Abstract:
UK planning laws have undergone extensive changes following the introduction of new European directives to protect environmentally sensitive areas. The UK government must now designate special areas of conservation and special protection areas for birds, and no development is allowed in these areas which could damage their integrity. Planners must assess the conservation implications of any plans relating to a European site, and must review existing unimplemented planning permissions which affect European sites.

Park prospects
Article Abstract:
The development of business parks will continue in the late 1990s. The promise of employment will still overthrow environmental considerations. There will be fewer parkland sites in the 21st century than in the 1980s, but they will be better and smaller in size.
